About Clemson SC
Clemson, South Carolina may be most famous for Clemson University which has been standing since the late 1800’s. When you hear the name Clemson, you think football, especially if you’re from there. Since the school was founded, there has been a bitter rivalry with the South Carolina Gamecocks, mainly due to the strong sense of loyalty each college has to its history and reason for being there. This just goes to show how much spirit the city of Clemson has. It’s an exciting and invigorating place to visit or even live.
Clemson didn’t get its name until the early 1940’s and was previously named Calhoun. The land of Clemson originally belonged to Floride Calhoun who left it to her husband, John Calhoun, when she passed. When he passed, he left it to their only daughter who married Thomas Clemson. When the daughter passed, she left it to her husband with the wish that it would be used as an agricultural college. When Thomas Clemson passed, he left the land with the orders that it be built as the daughter had wished. To this day, the college still stands and is the epitome of Clemson.
Over the next 10 years, Clemson is projected to have 40% job growth which stands to make the 4.3% unemployment rate they’re sitting at now, even lower. The average house hold income is currently at $35,000 annually and the cost of living has been given an A rating by the AreaVibes website. The education for Clemson was given an even higher rating and for good reason, since the town is well-known for its college.
Clemson is about 8 square miles in size and is comprised of about 6% water and the rest land. If you enjoy little snow throughout the year, then Clemson is the place to be. Its average snow fall, annually, is only 1-3 inches. Talk about a nice winter vacation spot! If you do decide to visit Clemson, the #1 spot is Memorial Stadium where all the well-known sports action happens. There’s also Doug Kingsmore Stadium for the baseball fans out there. If you’re not into sports, Clemson has gorgeous botanical gardens, waterfront parks, and plenty of shops and museums. If you enjoy a little night life, Clemson also has plenty of that to offer as well with some fantastic clubs
Sightseeing isn’t the only thing available in Clemson. The food that’s available is just as diverse as most South Carolina towns. The Blue Heron Restaurant and Sushi were rated number one by visitors on TripAdvisor and serves every dish as if it were a work of art. Head on over to Rick Erwin’s if you’re looking for a great steak and finish up with some dessert at Clemson’s Ice Cream. Many say the ice cream is part of the Clemson tradition. Clemson is a proud and loyal place with a lot of spirit. It’s impossible to not get caught up in the excitement while there and even more impossible when you have to go home.
