Greenville Vistor's Guide

About Greenville

Greenville, South Carolina is a magical place. It rests at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and boasts gorgeous scenery year round.  Forbes Magazine rated it in the top ten for America’s best places. This rising town once began as a Cherokee Indian hunting ground which was closed off to the public. A trader from Virginia became close with the Cherokee who owned the land and was given a gift of about 100,000 acres. This piece of land was the start of Greenville. Through war and the changing of ownership a few times, Greenville began to truly take shape in the 1880’s when water, sewer, and electric were installed. Since then, Greenville has had its ups and downs but has always been a popular spot for visitors. Greenville might not be a household name yet, but it’s quickly gaining popularity due to its irresistible charm.

Although Greenville sits near the mountains, it has, on average, about 220 sunny days throughout the year. Its climate is warm, humid, and temperate which means the summers are hot but dry seasons are unheard of. However, average temperatures throughout the year rarely get below 25 degrees or over 89 degrees making it a very comfy place to live. What makes it an even better place to live is the fact that the cost of living is 2.7% below the national average and the unemployment rate is only 5.7%. Not to mention, it was rated #46 for best places for businesses and careers.

Over 70% of Greenville is covered in lush forest while the rest is croplands and the hustle and bustle of city life.  It brings the best of both worlds when looking for something to pass the time or even for vacation. Activities involve hiking in the mountains, visiting the Dark Corner Distillery, experiencing the children’s museum, taking a Segway tour of the city, or spending a relaxing day at Falls Park on the Reedy which was voted the #1 attraction for Greenville on TripAdvisor. If it’s food you’re looking for, you have plenty of options to choose from. Try out some of Greenville’s finest dining experiences including Soby’s, a southern fare style or the Pita House which flaunts its high ratings by serving up delightful middle eastern cuisine. If it’s just a fine steak you want, hit up Saskatoon, one of the best steak and fish places in Greenville. There is an endless array of food, fun, and relaxing suited to match any lifestyle or preference.
